There were several planning and zoning updates at the Albertville City Council meeting on Monday, October 2.
The City Council unanimously voted and adopted an ordinance amending the zoning district to allow sports training facilities by conditional use permit.
It’s not uncommon for sports training facilities to become popular in industrial areas because of the large open floor areas and high ceiling clearance. Other cities have allowed these land uses into their industrial zoning districts as well.
Shooting Stars Gymnastics submitted the application to amend the ordinance to allow sports training facilities in industrial districts and for the Conditional Use Permit to allow them at 5548 Barthel Industrial Drive, Suite 400.
The City Council also adopted ordinances changing the zoning, approving the lot line and approving site and building plans for the STMA Ice Arena expansion. The STMA School district has submitted an application to expand the current ice arena’s footprint by 6,323 square feet to include an additional sheet of ice, new concession stand, new varsity locker rooms, new restrooms and new viewing areas.
Finally, the City Council also approved Towne Lakes 7th Addition and Hunters Pass 3rd Addition Preliminary Plat, Final Plat and PUD Amendments. These two neighborhood additions will include a total of 79 new homes.
